Travel Diaries: Egypt

I recently traveled to Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt for my first holiday abroad in two years, due to the pandemic. I felt extremely grateful to feel the sunshine and to be relaxing by a beautiful pool again.

I loved Egypt and wanted to document my first time in this magical country. Egypt had been somewhere I wanted to explore due to its fascinating history, it certainly did not disappoint.

WHERE TO STAY

Sharm el Sheik is a resort town in Egypt, situated in the desert. A perfect destination for a relaxing beach holiday. After much deliberation, we decided to stay in Rixos Premium Hotel. Which was beautiful, surrounded by gorgeous green grounds, plenty of swimming pools to lounge around, and amazing restaurants to choose from.

When staying at Rixos, you have access to their sister hotel, where you can find further entertainment, a water park, and another jetty. Both jetties lead into the Red Sea, where you can explore the coral reefs - one of my highlights of the holiday.

WHAT TO DO

 Visit Cairo

A must when visiting Egypt is to go to the capital, Cairo. To visit Cairo from Sharm El-Sheikh, is an hour’s flight. Upon arrival our first stop was in the capital, Mosque of Muhammad Ali, where we got an incredible view of Cairo. We continued driving through the old town observing the variety of architecture surrounding us before we made it to Cairo Museum. The museum is filled with incredible artifacts which give an insight into Egyptian history. The new Grand Egyptian Museum is due to open in the November of this year, from the outside it looked incredible – worth visiting upon opening.

The highlight of the day, of course, visiting the Pyramids. A surreal experience to see the pyramids in person, it was fascinating to hear about the history behind them and how they were built. We went inside the second pyramid, again surreal to be crawling (literally) inside something that is thousands of years old.

 Quad Biking

Quad biking through the canyons at sunset was picturesque. During this excursion, we spent some time in a local village, where we were served a traditional Bedouin dinner and enjoyed beautiful performances from the Bedouin people. This excursion was so much more than I thought it would be, it was such a special evening that gave us a glimpse of Egyptian culture.

What to Bring

If We Had More Time

Luxor is another part of Egypt that I would have liked to of visited. Luxor is located close to the river Nile. After learning more about Egyptian history on this trip, visiting the Valley of the Kings and exploring Luxor is something I would like to do next time.

Egypt was truly amazing, it was a holiday that pushed me to experience new things and I would definitely like to return again one day!
